I met Evelyn 70 yrs ago, when I was sixteen and she was seventeen. I was a member of Great Victoria St. Baptist Christian Endeavour Young People's group.
Then a new family joined the group... handsome twin boys and their beautiful curly haired sister, Evelyn. We were all good friends, and of course with their good looks and their lovely Scottish accents, we all loved them .
Before long I was dating Albert, and he invited me to Evelyn's 21st birthday party. It was a pretty grand affair by our standards. They had rented a hall and there was a big crowd there, including Billy Clark. Albert's father asked me to sing, which I did. I sang ''Whispering Hope''.(by special request of Grampa) I was singing a lot at that time.
That was the beginning of a precious friendship which lasted for all these years, even though we lived far apart, we always managed to have lovely and memorable visits.
Evelyn and Billy married, and Albert and I married a few months later. Then we had our children around the same time. They visited us in Dundonald, N.I. many times, then in Canada, and then in Donaghadee, N.I. and we had several happy times with them in France and in Digswell.
We haven't been in touch so much lately, owing to Evelyn's memory loss, although the families are still loving and close, and we keep in touch through email....They are in our hearts and in our prayers...especially at this time.
Evelyn was a beautiful person inside and out.....genuine, gentle, patient and loving, and I have loved her, and I will miss her sadly. Some day I will see her in glory, with all the others whom we have loved and lost awhile
